Bill allows Lake Berryessa motorized recreations

Published: Thursday, Jun. 21, 2012 - 12:22 pm

Re “Develop Berryessa recreation” (Letters, June 19): The letter is misleading and false. It suggests that motorboat access and recreation would be negatively impacted if my bill (HR 5545, Berryessa Snow Mountain National Conservation Area Act ) becomes law. This could not be further from the truth. Nothing in the legislation would impact motorboat use. Any suggestion otherwise is untrue.

Napa County, Lake County, the Winters City Council, the Davis City Council, the Clearlake City Council and the Calistoga City Council have all passed unanimous resolutions of support in favor of the bill. There are also 148 businesses, representing all four involved counties, who support the legislation. This bill is about protecting the Berryessa Snow Mountain region. It only affects federally owned property. These federal lands are open to the public and my bill will make sure it stays that way. It will ensure that tax dollars are spent efficiently, and that the land is managed effectively. It will help our local economy, preserve the land for future generations and has a wide base of local support.
